<sigh> Oh, doesn’t that sound like a nice place???
In the real world, it’s a little less simple. (As you may have noticed.)
First, you’ve got to catch that potential customer’s attention. But just because you’ve gotten her attention doesn’t mean she’s even willing to interact with you!
You have to give her some compelling reason to visit your site, read your post, and sign up for your email or your freebies.
Oh, and then, of course, you have to build a relationship with her, educating her about yourself and what you have to offer.
And all of that before she’s ready to make a purchase.
Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a way to make some of this easier?
Oh, but there is!
You can jumpstart this process in a relatively easy and, dare I say, fun way. You can get her attention, and get her interested, and get her contact information to start that relationship-building process.
What do you think is the most effective way to do this?
A. Read her mind with your hidden psychic abilities
B. Infiltrate her life and become her new best friend
C. Set up a quiz or survey
Eeeyup, quizzes and surveys it is!
People love taking quizzes — it only takes a quick glance at Facebook to see how many people take quizzes and post the results. (And even more people take quizzes and don’t post results!)
Not incidentally, people also love taking surveys. They love telling you about their opinions, thoughts, and lives, and boooooy do they love clicking on pretty buttons online to do it.
So how can you get in on this quiz and survey mania? (Not really a mania; people have loved quizzes and surveys as long as they’ve existed it’s in our make-up.)
It’s actually pretty easy: You can set up surveys or quizzes on your website that your target audience will want to interact with—and you can even use those fabulous surveys and quizzes to gather contact information.
I’ve worked my way through several different quiz and survey software programs, and one of the most impressive I’ve come across is called Interact. (Full disclosure: they’ve given me free access to the program, but my review is entirely unbiased.)
The set up is pretty easy to master. You can either set up a quiz/survey quickly using one of their templates, or design your own. Then end result is a high-quality Buzzfeed-esque quiz.
Want to get a little savvy with your questions? You can use the questions in your survey to get info about your prospective customer and then send them to different next questions based on their actions. (It’s called “branching logic” because it looks like tree branches when it’s all mapped out.)
For example, if a question in your survey is “Have you ever worked with a coach before?” you could send them to different next questions whether they answer “yes” or “no.”
Interact quizzes are also mobile-friendly, so it’s easy to post to your social media pages (and easy for your target audience to take on-the-go). In fact, there’s also a pretty easy way to hook them up with Facebook ads.
Here’s a quick example of an Interact quiz, just so you can have a look:
The software also has a pretty swanky robust analytics section, including the opportunity to see where people are dropping off in your survey or quiz…so you can fix anything that needs fixin’.
While Interact does have a free tier, not all of the features I’ve mentioned are available in that tier. The next level up isn’t too expensive, but—as I know you already know as a financially savvy solopreneur—be sure those quizzes and surveys are as effective as can be to justify the expense.
Once you’ve got your prospective customer beguiled with a genius survey or quiz and she’s given you her contact information to get her results, you can start sending her down your email funnel, nurturing your relationship with her, and helping her understand just exactly how your product and service can improve her life. Win!
